The Sleeping Doll (Kathryn Dance Novels)

Kathryn Dance is brilliant. Having appeared in a Lincoln Rhyme novel, i was hoping to see her in her own series.I wasn't disappointed with the outcome. All the characters were well written, and there are more twists and pace changes than the Nurburgring.So...a synopsis is in order i suppose. The story begins in a courthouse lock-up, where agent Dance is interviewing Daniel Pell, a charismatic and manipulative "cult leader" inprisoned on a murder charge. Well it wouldn't be much of a book unless he made a daring escape, causing a fast paced manhunt. This book is well worth a read, the only truly predictable part of it is the escape in my opion. Its just...ok.

I think Deaver has done us all a good turn by turning away from the Lincoln Rhyme novels. Kathryn Dance is an interesting character on her own and when combined with Deaver's rather deep reserve of storylines you have a sure-fire stable of future bestsellers. In Sleeping Doll we're introduced to Daniel Pell, a killer of terrible repute.
The first novel of the series was published in the year 2007 by the Hodder & Stoughton publishing house under the title 'The Sleeping Doll'. The novel is set in California, United States and introduces the central characters Kathryn Dance and Daniel Pell.

The Sleeping Doll is another high suspenseful story and the first in the Kathryn Dance series. This one has a cult-like killer in the same vein as the Manson murders - and he (Daniel Pell) is called The Son of Manson due to the way he murdered an entire family except one small child who was hidden in her bed with stuffed animals.

I was so excited to discover the spin off series involving Kathryn Dance, a kinesics specialist (a body language expert for us lay people). Kathryn featured in the Lincoln Rhyme series so I know I could expect similar twists in the new series. In The Sleeping Doll, Kathryn was called on to lead the hunt for an escaped cult killer, Daniel Pell.

The only child left alive, nine-year-old Theresa, is known as the Sleeping Doll. Pell, charismatic and diabolically intelligent, continually eludes capture, but Dance, a specialist in interrogation and kinesics (or body language), is never more than a few suspenseful minutes behind.
Hungry on his trail, Dance enlists three of Pell's former female followers, now raising families and leading normal lives, as well as the one surviving family member from the initial killing. Only eight years old at the time, she was asleep in her bed and obscured by her toys and stuffed animals, prompting the press to call her "The Sleeping Doll".
